Traineeship in Security and Events (19-24 year olds)

Introduction

The Private Security Industry is growing and by 2020 will employ in excess of 400,000 staff. That number can be doubled if you include ‘in house’ security operations and stewarding and due to natural wastage (5% staff turnover) will be looking to recruit about 60,000 new entrants annually.

The industry can offer a wide range of job options from full time, part time, flexible shifts, weekend and night work to suit all ages and genders from a range of job roles, including corporate, construction, door supervision, retail, CCTV and events. Without requiring specific skills or experience, the industry seeks candidates with basic Level 2 accreditation to meet government regulation and those who can demonstrate effective communication skills (written and verbal), a smart presence, good attitude and a track record of punctuality.

The events sector is worth £39.1 billion to the UK economy and covers exhibitions, festivals, music and sporting events. More than 7000 major outdoor events are held each year in the UK.

Stewarding tends to involve crowd management and customer service. Ideally event stewards should hold a level 2 NVQ qualification in Spectator Safety which is provided during this traineeship programme. Pay tends to be around £6.50-£8 per hour for these roles and sometimes more depending on the event.

During the traineeship the learners will be working at live events and will have a real opportunity of going into employment.

Course Content

  • Functional Skills in English and Maths
  • Level 1 Certificate in Personal Development for Employability (QCF) 600/8458/3
  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (QCF) 600/2926/2
  • Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry (QCF) 601/4963/2
  • 100+ Hours Work Experience
  • Free SIA Licence

Progression to Employment

The route way to employment depends upon the individual’s ability, performance and commitment; however, all learners will receive a guaranteed interview with genuine sustainable employment opportunities on offer.

The pathways can include:

  • Employment in Security
  • Employment in Events
  • Apprenticeships (19-24 yr olds)
  • Temporary/Part-Time Work
  • Self Determination

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The traineeship is only for learners who have little or no work experience and are focused on work or an apprenticeship or the prospect of this.
  2. We conduct an assessment and make a judgement based on our professional knowledge and experience as to whether the learner has the potential to be ready for employment or an apprenticeship within six months of starting their traineeship.
  3. The learner must be aged 19-24 on 31 August in the funding year in which they start and under 25 at the start of the traineeship.
  4. The learner must not have achieved a full level 3 qualification or equivalent or above.
  5. Learners with a criminal record should visit Security Industry Authority site to see if their record would prevent them from obtaining a SIA Licence.
