Burglar's code: Criminal's chalk messages to target homes
It was 2009 when Police released information on a plot involving chalk signs being drawn outside a number of properties across the affluent Tandridge district in Surrey in advance of them being targeted by criminal gangs.
Local residents and residents in surrounding areas should be aware of any unusual markings on low- rise walls, pavements or kerbs and report them to the police.
A number of symbols have been deciphered already and police have released this information to the public, as an attempt to stop them from being used by criminals and to help catch those responsible for this spate of burglaries.
