CRIME PREVENTION NEWS

Welcome to the third Newsletter sponsored by Banham Burglary Prevention. With Christmas almost upon us it can be a time when criminals like to fill their own sacks with gifts, sadly stolen ones! Hopefully the advice below will help prevent a crime occurring whilst you are away for the holiday period.

Do make sure your house or flat looks occupied.
Do not leave presents in view.
Do not close all the curtains.
Fit an automatic timer switch to turn on a light during the hours of darkness.
Make sure all windows and doors have adequate locks and the locks are in good working order and provide a good fit.
Cancel any regular deliveries.
Get a friend or neighbour to check your home regularly and remove mail from the letterbox or floor.
Make sure your house alarm is working effectively
Ensure house contents insurance is up to date and all your valuables are covered.
If you are travelling abroad do not put your address on your luggage.
Finally lock up your premises thoroughly before you leave.

Beware of Seasonal Con Men

This time of year brings out the usual suspects who prey on the vulnerable and I am afraid to say the plain stupid! Please be aware of the following:

Bogus Charity collectors
The man who has been locked out of his house and needs money for a cab
The man who needs money for a sick relative
Do not respond if you receive a card from PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) saying they could not deliver a parcel. They ask you to ring a Premium rate number which costs £315. Contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655.
