As a family business, people are at the heart of everything that we do at Banham, so we have always prioritised giving back wherever we can. Perhaps our most significant impact to date has been through our longstanding partnership with The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which began more than a decade ago in 2015 and which has been shortlisted for a 2026 Corporate Engagement Award ahead of October’s ceremony, in the ‘Most Effective Long-Term Commitment’ category.
Funding areas such as equipment, research, and treatment spaces, the Charity enables The Royal Marsden’s brilliantly talented nurses, doctors, and research teams to provide the very best care, and to continue their work to develop life-saving treatments for people affected by cancer all over the world.
Each year at The Banham Marsden March, the charity’s flagship event, thousands of people forge a path between The Royal Marsden’s hospitals sites in Chelsea and Sutton, walking five or 15 miles, camaraderie in every step, and with many of The Royal Marsden’s current and former patients leading the charge. Taking part alongside them are members of Team Banham, made up of our staff and their friends and family; over 840 of us have taken part to date, raising over £230,000 for the Charity along the way.
Even during the pandemic, passionate supporters joined the fully virtual Banham Marsden March at Home in 2021. And The Banham Marsden March has gone from strength to strength since: in 2026, over 7000 people marched to raise an incredible £2.2 million, marking the second year running the flagship event has raised over £2 million and adding to the staggering total of £21 million raised since the flagship event began in 2011.
That money has been put to truly excellent use, including supporting the Charity’s Oak Cancer Centre Appeal. This enabled the construction of the Oak Cancer Centre, a state-of-the-art research and treatment facility, which was formally opened by His Royal Highness Prince William, The Prince of Wales in June 2023.
“We are so proud of the impact that The Banham Marsden March has made to date and are very pleased to continue to support this inspirational charity, helping to make a difference for cancer patients at The Royal Marsden, throughout the UK and around the world,” says Charles Hallatt, Banham’s Executive Chairman.
Over the festive season, Team Banham volunteers at the Ever After Garden, which sees Chelsea’s Duke of York Square lit with as many as 30,000 illuminated white roses, which visitors are invited to place in memory of loved ones, and in support of the Charity, with donations welcome.
For our next chapter as the Charity’s proud partners, we’re setting our sights on an ambitious new goal by sponsoring The Big Marsden Trek. On Sunday September 13th, we’ll be trekking 26.2 miles - the length of a marathon - across stunning open countryside, setting off in Dorking and following our feet to The Royal Marsden in Sutton. As well as walking on the day, Team Banham will be providing a warm welcome at the first rest stop, handing out snacks and cheering on the trekkers. Over 850 participants are registered to take part, having raised more than £200,000 already, and Team Banham is excited to join them on the day.
"In this special centenary year for Banham, we are thrilled to be sponsoring The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s brand new event. Giving back is a central part of our approach, so it feels fitting to be building on this longstanding partnership which means so much to us all. We help people to protect what they cherish, so it resonates strongly that The Royal Marsden is leading the way in pioneering research to save the lives of more people with cancer. We look forward to seeing you at the start line!"
